So I have to admit I haven’t run or trained as much as I’ve wanted this winter. Hell, I didn’t run much at all. I signed up for this race in January I think; deciding a half marathon for my birthday would be fun. OK maybe I was convinced it would be fun by a few friends who signed up and said they’d run with me. As I have been getting back into running I realized...
Race week: Chicago Marathon style!
Thought I’d post a quick update…here goes! Holy cow, it’s getting super close! Holy cow I can’t believe the marathon is less than 5 days away! At work, we’re officially moved into our new office! I’m SO glad the move is done and off my plate. As we’re still unpacking, I’m not going to Naperville this week, and that’s helping the stress level too. My dad, cubicle dad’s dad, aka “ninja dad” flies in Thursday,...
Race Week: Peapod Half Madness 13.1
So I’ve been given the green light to run this race on Sunday! Coach Jen and I talked yesterday about it and decided the race plan would be…no plan. I’m going to run it, race, and have fun! No Garmin, no watch, nothing…just run! I’m excited! There’s no pressure, at all. I figure I’ll start easy and build up to a comfortable pace and see how the calf responds. I’m assuming fine as I’ve had...
What the hell was that? It’s cubicle dad, he’s gone backwards. or I gained an inch around the waist and a few pounds…
And I’ve gained 5lbs on top of the 6lbs I gained while on vacation. That kind of sucks. I’ve found myself fighting off a freak out about a backside. Sound fun? But wait, there’s more. I’ve been dealing with some self poor self image stuff. On and off since vacation. On our beach days I passed on going shirtless and opted for a tank top bothh days. Im just not comfortable in my skin. (I...
Race week: Rock n Roll Chicago Half
I’m 5 days out from my 7th half marathon and I’m excited! This will be my third running of the Rock n Roll half, and for the first time I’m not traveling the same day! Yay! In 2010 I slept an hour the night before as PG was sick and had a film crew following me that race for the ad campaign (video) for the Chicago Marathon. Last year we went on vacation that day,...
Training update: 89 days to go until the Chicago Marathon
I’m back! Did you miss me? No? Well, fine. After a busy and stressful couple of weeks, and vacation last week, I’m resurfacing. I thought about blogging a lot last week…but then I decided to stay off line and enjoy the down time with the family. I needed a break. Work was busy and my grandmother passed away, so I wasn’t really into writing much. On Saturday, June 30th, I ran some with the Niles...
Good juju from a Redemption tutu? It just might be true…
So a couple of weeks ago, I ran my mouth off and, well…I have a tutu to run in. But not just any tutu, it’s a hand made redemption tutu. I admit I had mixed feelings about wearing it. But after trying it on, and after a moment of feeling foolish, I just didn’t care. The best part was I had a damn good run while wearing it! I wasn’t hung up in my head...
Dads Who Run: Dave Wallach
Dads Who Run is back just in time for Father’s Day! Here’s the latest installment here on cubicle dad runs. Today I’m featuring my mentor, Dave Wallach! As a working dad, I know how tough it can be to balance work and family, and I think we sometimes get taken for granted. Now add in endurance sports? You’re upping the ante a bit. I thought it would be nice to highlight some Dads Who Run! If...
Training update: 121 days to go and a summer anthem
Woo hoo, 121 days and counting! CARA training for the Chicago marathon officially gets underway tomorrow! Sure I’ve been training for a while, but it feels more official seeing all the CARA emails and all the runners out and about. Since taking up running almost 3 years ago, I’ve picked a song or two as sort of an anthem for training for whatever the next big race was- from Know Your Enemy and Not Afraid,...
Training update and reasons to run
As Coach Jen says, we’ve begun the build towards the Chicago Marathon. Woo hoo! I celebrated with a long run out at Waterfall Glen on Saturday! It was nice to get another double digit run in, makes it feel official! This weekend CARA training begins. They’ll be doing 6, I’m doing 2:05:00, or 11.5 miles hopefully. While I can’t say I have missed the schedule juggling, it’s here. Pam works Saturday and Sunday, so I’ll...
I'm Dan, cubicle dad, and this is my blog, cubicle dad runs! I'm a working dad of two awesome daughters, I work and I run...
I've lost over 110 pounds while training and running four marathons: Chicago 2010, 2011, Austin 2012, and Chicago 2012!
