Sure we’re 5 months into the year and I haven’t shared my goals. With everything going on, I’ve decided t keep it simple this year. I’m not running a ton of races, and after 2 full marathons in 2012, I’m only doing 1…and it’s not Chicago. I’ll be running the 1st Naperville Marathon on November 10! That will be marathon number 5…which leads me to my first goal. 1. Run marathon #5 in under 5...

Shamrock Shuffle Volunteer Recap: A volunteer virgin no more!
Last Sunday I did something I haven’t ever done before…I volunteered at a race. Thanks to David (@dpturtle), I got hooked up with the ACS Determination team and helped man the water station in the finish line area…East Side! I’ve been meaning to volunteer for a while but just haven’t found or made time. I’m glad this was my first race. I got to the Volunteer Compound at 7am, and waited for instructions while enjoying...
Chi Town Half recap: A birthday half marathon…in a tutu
So I have to admit I haven’t run or trained as much as I’ve wanted this winter. Hell, I didn’t run much at all. I signed up for this race in January I think; deciding a half marathon for my birthday would be fun. OK maybe I was convinced it would be fun by a few friends who signed up and said they’d run with me. As I have been getting back into running I realized...
Back at it…
I know, whoopie. For the three loyal readers, that must be exciting news. Sarcasm aside, I took some time away from blogging, and running, after the marathon…but I’m back here, and I’m back running again. I plan to dive into my goals for the year in a post soon, I have chosen the Naperville Marathon on November 10th as my 5th marathon. My goal is to run it under 5 hours. Yes, 4th time is the charm I suppose...
cubicle dad spins? My first spin class and an update…
Yes, it’s true…I did go to a spin class. This runner guy tried something new; and it was glorious! I loved it but holy hell, is it intense! I felt like puking no less than 3 times during the class. And wow, my ass and legs were sore after! My friend taught the class, and I think used it as revenge for the many early morning runs I organized. I don’t think I’m exaggerating at all! My friend was...
One week post marathon, a quick update…
This time last week I was underway, running my 4th marathon. What a difference a week makes! I feel good…legs feel decent, my shin doesn’t hurt nor does it feel cramped or tight. My hip/ groin isn’t bad. I start PT tomorrow which I hope helps. As much as I’d like to go back to Bodywerks in Arlington Heights, it just isn’t doable with my schedule. I’ll be going to Athletìco near the house. Coach...
Anything is possible…
I started creating a few side by side comparisons to show my progress. I call it the “Then / Now” series. Here they are in order… Never give up. Anything is possible!
Chasing redemption: 2012 Chicago Marathon race recap
Redemption (re·demp·tion), noun: The act of redeeming or the condition of having been redeemed. Synonyms: saving, atonement, absolution, salvation, rescue, liberation, emancipation, deliverance That was the theme for this year; Coach Jen and I talked about it after last year’s Chicago Marathon. It became my mantra; I wanted to bounce back after last year’s race and run strong on this course. I trained hard and set a new PR in Austin in February, which was awesome! But I still...
I'm Dan, cubicle dad, and this is my blog, cubicle dad runs! I'm a working dad of two awesome daughters, I work and I run...
I've lost over 110 pounds while training and running four marathons: Chicago 2010, 2011, Austin 2012, and Chicago 2012!
