16 days to go…

Oh, hello! Yeah, I realize I haven’t posted in 2 months. I found that training, raising the girls, working, trying to have a social life- juggling everything is hard; really, really, really hard. Especially during the heart of marathon training, which is where I’ve been. I know, crazy! So training has gone well. I mean it’s been 2 years since I’ve done this, and the long runs were a mixed bag. I ran two 20...

Long run recap: 12 miles of awesome

Yesterday’s run was a lot of fun! I had 14 down, but am totally happy I got 12. I felt great and surprised myself with something left in the tank to push at the end. I admit I was in my head on and off this week, and Friday night I was as well. I keep looking big picture, and not just taking it a run at a time. That’s my goal from here on...

Training update: working to keep out of my head…

don't believe everything you think

I’ve been scarce lately, just busy with life and having fun. Things are going pretty well, training wise. Last week was a step back week, and I needed it. I also went and had my knee rechecked. Turns out it’s a bit arthritic. So that’s fun! Doctor wants to try a cortisone shot, so I’m going in Tuesday and see how it goes. Yesterday was an awesome fund raising day, 3 awesome $50 donations came...

Long run recap: when “what if” pops in your head…

Short version: I wanted 12 miles, I got 9. And hindsight, you’re a smart bastard. Long version…I set a goal of 12 miles today. The plan called for 9, but for some reason I thought, ooh 12! I prepped and felt ready. I got up at 530 and felt OK, and got out the door about 615. I hit the trail for a couple miles before meeting the group at 7. I felt so so…it...

cubicledad’s dad…

My childhood is a blur of memories of my dad. I remember lots of fun, models, movies, music, laughter. Then I remember he and my mom divorcing; I was in second grade. I still have good memories, weekends with dad, getting away from all the crap with my mom, feeling safe and loved. Then in 6th grade, my dad moved to Austin. My mom was supposed to tell us, but didn’t. So we ended up...

13.1 Chicago race recap: Wing man mode, activate!

10458851_10152409316605339_4024720015133691378_n

Saturday I got to return to the race that was my first half back in 2010. I hadn’t planned on racing, but once I gave the entry away and my winner asked if I’d run with them, I was in! Last week was busy, and I’m just now realizing I didn’t even post for Weigh-In Wednesday. I did take Friday and today off, to get a break and recharge a bit. Friday I took Kae...

Weigh-In Wednesday results, week 13…

Results are in…And I am down 2.2 lbs this week! So to hit my goal by the Wednesday before the Chicago Marathon, means I need to lose 61.7 more pounds. I’m feeling amazing and am officially below 250lbs again! Awesome!!! With the ankle hurting, I’m enjoying the rest this week. I’ve run hard these last few weeks. So, Weigh-In Wednesday buddies…how did you fair? Everyone else, check in below, on twitter, or instagram and use the hashtag #wiw!...

And I’m injured…

das boot 2, electric boogaloo?

Tadaa? So Sunday night, I decided to go get a run in, to clear my head. Nothing major, nothing fast…just a few miles, me with my thoughts. I got a mile out, and stepped off the side of the trail…rolling my right ankle. I went down like a giant sack o’ crap, and laid there for a minute taking stock: scraped hand, scraped left ankle, really really REALLY sore right ankle. The run was done. Now...

Soldier Field 10 Mile race recap: some good, some bad.

sf10 mem day

I’ve only run the Soldier Field 10 Mile once, back in 2010, with Dave. It was a hot day, and I believe they black flagged the race. We were already at mile 9 and we finished in 1:54:07. After finishing the Chicagoland Half last Sunday, I decided to run it again…possibly mistake #1! I felt great after the half, and figured I’d run for fun. Then after my Tuesday and Wednesday runs, I felt confident,...
